|My first Woodpecker shot:|
I will criticize this picture myself, before you guys from TN tear me apart :-)
First, the positive. The bird is doing something, that is good, it's not early in the day but at least the light is from the back, also good. Focusing on the eye, ok, DOF with f/4 ok, background darkened in PS, ok. But: the angle from below is bad despite the use of 600 mm focal length (taking shots from far away diminishes the angle). The histogram would have shown me whatâs wrong with whiteness, I had to correct it afterwards in PS. You tell me what else is wrong.
Red-Crowned Woodpecker (Melanerpes rubricapillus, Carpintero Habado, Rotkappenspecht. Picidae). The picture has been taken on the road in an open space with some second-growth trees near the entrance of the Parque nacional Piedras Blancas. According to IUCN Red List the species occurs in Colombia; Costa Rica; Guyana; Panama; Suriname; Trinidad and Tobago; Venezuela, Bolivarian Republic. Similar species replace it elsewhere in the Americas.

Das Bild ist doch sehr gut gelungen. Da gibt es nicht viel zu beanstanden.
Ein schĂśner Vogel.WĂźnsche ein schĂśnes Wochenende..

The picture is not bad at all.
This species is quite common in my country too.

Hi Dietrich,it's always a great satisfaction the first pic of a woodpecker,i'm waiting me too to do the same...ehehe....perfect location in the best light for the best quality, well done. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano
You are being modest in self-criticism mode, Dietrich. This is a brilliant capture of a Woodpecker in Costa Rica from a difficult perspective. All PP work you did to make it so beautiful is well executed. That catch-light in the eye does it for me.
đ Hello Dietrich,
Beautiful shot âş of this woodpecker and đ Congratulation for your first shot.
Details look great as well as exposure.
I would like to frame it in vertical composition, not leaving much space in the right đ side
Thanks for sharing your work with us đ
