The elephants color appearance very much depends on the type of soil in the area they live in. Elephants mud themselves to make the parasites life harder. Therefore, you may see black, brown, yellow, etc. elephants.

Some of the most beautiful elephants in my opinion live in Etosha National Park. The salty soil in many areas there has very bright silver color, so the elephants are shining silver after they dry up.

This huge bull elephant was photographed near Springbokfontein waterhole. He was walking past springbok antelopes herd, making his size so obvious.

The photo was edited for the correct appearance on LCD monitors, it may look darker than intended on some CRT monitors.

This is my first picture on TrekNature - there will be more. :-)

Hello Nick
Welcome to the Trek Nature family. I step into this community with a great image and I can only echo what JeanMarie has said in his critique. This is indeed a masterpiece and a definite "flashy" one. The silvery colour of this elephant is really fascinating and a true eye-catcher. I like the “layered” surrounding in which you have captured this gigantic animal. The ground surface on the foreground, then the dried grass, the sand bank and then the trees on the horizon, and to round it off the layer of grey sky. A great image to start your journey at Trek Nature. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have this far. Thanks for sharing.
Best regards.
Anna

What a beauty! This giant is impressive! These antilopes look so small compare to him. This filter you used makes colors look almost surreal but has created a little noise in the background which is minor nit. This is a wonderful capture with good details and exposure. Welcome to TN and have fun!
