(family Chamaeleonidae) are squamates that belong to one of the best known lizard families. They are known for their ability to change their color, their elongated sticky tongue, and for their eyes which can be moved independently of each other. The name "chameleon" means "earth lion" and is derived from the Greek words "chamai" (on the ground, on the earth) and "leon" (lion).

The main distribution of Chameleons is Africa and Madagascar, and other tropical regions, although some species are also found in parts of southern Europe, Sri Lanka, India and Asia Minor. There are introduced, feral populations of veiled and Jackson's chameleons in Hawaii and isolated pockets of feral Jackson's chameleons have been reported in California and Florida.

Different members of this family inhabit all kinds of biotopes like tropical and montane rain forests, savannas and sometimes semi-deserts and steppes. Chameleons are mostly arboreal and are often found in trees or occasionally on smaller bushes. Some smaller species, however, live on the ground under foliage. The Chameleon is "battling" humans for their space and habitat.

hello Andrea,
your chameleon makes me laugh, because it seems very cool! The colors and clearness are good.
Thank you, Arnaud.

Cool shot of this guy, Andrea!
Nice detail and colours, like how you captured his tail in the air :)

Hi Andrea,
Very nice photo.Exellent details, colours and sharp.Very well composed.TFS.

Hello Andrea,
This chameleon looks cute. However this one is different as it walk on ground and seem to move quickly and easily. Also a pointing tail. An impressive picture. Regards,

Hi Andrea,
This is a nice and very detailled picture. I like this low composition a lot :) Excellent lightning, POV, DOF. I think he has a very cite face. Thanks,

I like this composition. I would like to have seen a little more light on our side of the chameleon. Maybe a little fill flash?
It might have helped if you could have opened up a stop to try and reduce the appearance of the distracting road gravel in the background. Roads are tough backgrounds.
Excellent choice of angle.

Hi Andrea,
this is a great shot of a chameleon. I see that you ytook the picture mid day, which often gives a terrible contrast. Even towards the light the chameleon is really good, in fact it gives a nice look on the background. The other day a friend of me advised me to bring a small white unbrella to places where light can be really hard and put the animal in a 'shadow'. Especially with herpetofauna it gives nice results (so he said)

Hi Andrea!
What a veritable treasure house of wild life you have found in Namibia, my friend! I guess I'm repeating myself.
Superb picture of this chamaleon you have shot in the desert. The creature is on the move and tensed up, for a kill, maybe.
Very effective POV, DOF, colours and sharpness.
Well done and TFS.

Ha ha! What a cute and interesting creature it is! i like its pose and colours! That's the point your great low pov here!
Bravo and TFS!

Ciao Andrea!
Looking at your shots of smaller creatures taken on the ground one can tell that you do take that extra step towards getting non distractive backgrounds and sometimes just get down on your belly as low as possible to get this nice blur behind the subject. And that's what makes a whole lot of difference. Good job again. Congratulations,

Hello Andrea,

What an amazing picture you are offering us here! It is, I think, the first time I see a chameleon walking on the ground. I'm habit to see it within vegetation... In the same idea, he looks running towards some plants ;-) I like the "L" shape formed by the body and the tail! DOF is great, colors looks so natural, and details impressive!!! Great picture and TFS,

..ma non assomiglia alle pietre!

bello scatto.

ciao mario

Bellissimo camaleonte. Colori naturali, ottima definizione e bilanciamento colori. Buona la nota allegata.
Ciao da Emilio
